If a high school student is making a decision between attending their local state university and a private university, is it a good idea for them to visit professors at their local university to ask for advice before making their decision of where to attend?

By "visit professors at their local university" I mean talk to professors who they might be interested in doing research with. Also, talking to them gives you so much of the information that you need in order to make an informed decision. Lots of UW professors got their degrees at private universities too, so they'd be in a particularly good position to give advice.
