How do I update my tomtom?

I bought a TomTom 'One' in 2007 and needless to say there are hundreds of roads missing now, as it's never been updated. The only thing I can see is to download TomTom 'Home' to your computer then pay $AU99 for the 'Australia' map, however I think this...

is there another way besides downloading tomtom home? For some reason the tomtom home won't download
