How do I camp on Michigan State Land?

Not a state campground, like state forests where open hunting is allowed during hunting season and where people are allowed to hike.

i live in Michigan and there is state land by me in Dorr. i have been hunting on the land but i was wondering do you have to camp in a designated area or is it ok to just camp anywhere. i have read some of the state land rules but i'm getting mixed answers...

If you are an experienced camper and you do not litter, leave the land the way you found it, etc, isn't primitive camping allowed on state/national land?
