  • Answer:

Have you tried mixing your horse's feed with beet pulp? I had a really hard time putting weight on my mare on winter and she's a really picky eater, but she ate this like crazy! It takes a little bit of time, but mix the beet pulp with water about half an hour before you feed and you can mix your feed in with it. Doing this twice a day would give you the best results. Bullwinkle is 14, but that's really not that old for a horse - there are some horses still competing in professional show-jumping at 18 years old, and I am still riding my quarter horse and he's 19 now.

If it is possible try feeding your horse more times a day like 3-4 times With a good helping of feed. For my pony in use conditioning cubes really make a difference and help him to keep some weight on as my horse is a cob when he looses weight he does look really awful! Also make sure that your horse is warm enough when out in the field and in the stable hope this helps!
