Does the RROD make the 360 not worthwhile?

Is it possible to make my Xbox 360 elite get the e-74 or RROD?

  • My xbox is out of warranty. Just letting you know it is the elite system. 120 gig HD and yea i had bought it in january of 09. if that helps. now it is out of warranty and the xbox wont read any disks. it was a growing problem but i just never bothered to get it fixed. now it is out of warranty and it wont read ANY disks.. would it be possible for me to give my elite the e-74 or RROD? i am willing to overheat it, open it. anything to give it one of these considering it is still under 3 year warranty. also if i were to send it in without an error. what would happen? would they notice it?

  • Answer:

They test them when you send in the console. Just leave it turned on, on the NXE dashboard, hovering over your friends list. Cover up a couple of the vents with paper or something, but NOT all of them. You want it to be hot enough that it doesn't overheat, but it's also hotter than ideal. Then, leave it on, and hope for the best. The E-74 and RROD occur, effectively, when the components are overheated and the motherboard warps under the pressure of some clamps inside the case. This puts a load of strain on the connections on it, and as they are heated and cooled they become brittle. So, eventually, they snap. You might want to turn off the xbox for an hour after a day, then turn it on again, just to make sure you're re-heating and re-cooling the connections as much as possible for maximum stress. But DVD drive replacements aren't that expensive, to my knowledge. You could even do one yourself.
