Whats the best way to become a fighter pilot or test pilot?

  • Im a 17 year old junior and in the Civil Air patrol but cannot be a high enough rank before 18 to help get in the airforce. i want to be a fighter pilot first then test pilot then aerospace engineer. I have high grades and my pilots liscence with a glider endorsment. Whats the best way to become any of those?

    To be a pilot in the military you will need a 4 year degree at a university and will need to attend some sort of commissioning school (whether that's OCS, ROTC, etc). Next, you will need to actually get a flight contract. Generally speaking, you need to compete for flight contracts so your performance in school/ ROTC plays a huge factor in whether you get to be a pilot. Then you will need to attend flight school and be fortunate enough to be selected for jets out of primary flight school. The military doesn't really care what you want to fly, they only care about what kind of pilots they need at the time; therefore, there is a good chance you won't get jets at all, and you need to be able to accept that risk.

Well, if you have a 3 year work experience, or a degree of at least Bachelor's, you will earn a good enough rank to be a Fighter Pilot. First thing of course, is that you need to be physically and mentally fit for flying in the skies. You'll be up in the air, and I guarantee, you'll vomit till you get used to it. You'll also need a little mathematical and communication skills too.

To be a fighter pilot, don't suck. To be a test pilot, don't suck at being a fighter pilot and don't suck at math. Transport and helicopter pilot's can be test pilots too, as long as you can pass the test pilot selection course.
