Why are my citrus trees dying?

Why are there so many trees dying in the northeast (NY & PA)?

  • Everywhere I go I see dead or dying trees...looks like one in twenty have something wrong with them. Anyone know why?

  • Answer:

With warmer weather, you get more pests surviving to attack trees. It used to be that pine beetles couldn't survive at higher elevations. Now they can. The only thing we can do is keep planting more trees and harvest the dead ones as quickly as possible to reduce the chance of massive forest fires. The trick is you have to vary the makeup of a forest. If pine beetles are killing all the pines in an area, plant a tree they don't bother when you harvest the pines. A healthy forest should not be all one tree species. The days of clear cutting forests are over. Now we need to concentrate on intelligent management and selective cutting of the dying and dead trees.

Gypsy Moth's have killed the tress. We have had a bad infestation for the last two years, and the trees couldn't handle that type of shock.
