How do I tell if my IP is hacked?

How can I tell if someone is piggybacking / hacked into my internet?

• I have a HUGE feeling that someone who lives near to me is hacking into my internet? Also my e mails have been hijacked. How can I tell if that person has hacked in to my internet and more importantly how do I stop it? (They could of got my IP address from my modem when they babysat).

  All the answers here have their merits. My suggestion would be to use a combination of all the answers. Also, many newer wireless routers also allow white listing, this allows you to specify that only the MAC addresses (what wireless uses to identify devices) on the white list are allowed to connect. As for the e-mails being hijacked, if you still have access to the account, simply changing the password should prevent further misuse. Recommend running a virus scan with the latest definitions though, just to make sure you don't have any keyloggers installed. All that said though, there is no fool-proof solution to any computer security, as the saying goes "Build a better mousetrap, they build a better mouse." That doesn't mean we should make things any easier for those who wish to use our systems and connections for ill. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more help.
