My IP adress changed, how to tell if I'm hacked?
-
We have a static IP(it has never changed itself before) and this morning the internal and external IP adress suddenly changed. My Video game servers also don't work anymore(I tried changing the ports to the new IP,but that didn't work) Are we hacked?

Answer:
Are you subscribing extra to the ISP for a static IP address? If not an ISP server problem or brief loss of connection or power out can cause it to change at any time and it is NOT a static address. if you are not subscribing the extra payments, forget the rest of this answer, you are on dynamic IP. If you are subscribing, first check that there is not a problem with your ISP, a common problem when their servers crash is issuing incorrect IP addresses until they sort it out. But if you have to manually set the external IP address at your router, the only way this can change is if someone has logged in to it and changed it, or the router has dumped its' settings after a power loss. The router problem normally indicates that a save button was not clicked when setting it up, or a failing router. In this case it should have set itself to default values. The more common problem would be if you did not set encryption on the router, or have given someone outside the encryption key, or are using a weak encryption key which is easy to guess. In which case an outsider (or possibly someone on your own network) can have accessed the router and changed its' settings. You need to log in to the router on a WIRED connection and set up the encryption, use a different key, WPA or 128 bit WEP for security, then set the dhcp information correctly. And then change the admin password to the router. These should NEVER be left at defaults. After that set up the port forwarding again. Then make sure you find any save button or link and click it before logging out. After this restart the router to check it keeps its' settings.

XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD no you're not hacked it's one of the actions of antivirus or firewall or you made it by mistake by plugging your router or modem in and out XD
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of being compromised. Instead look for changes to your network. Has someone logged into your modem/router and changed settings? Perhaps your device was reset back to factory defaults? Have you changed providers? Have you contacted your ISP to ask why your external/public IP has changed?
