How common does Plan B cause bleeding?

Is it normal for the morning after pill (plan B) to cause abdomenal pain and bleeding?

    Yes of course its normal. The morning after pill is supposed to induce a period. It forces your body to shed the lining so an egg cannot implant and cause you to be pregnant. This pill also can make you very sick (nausea, vomiting, severe cramps, etc.) My advice to you is talk to your doctor--he/she should have explained this to you. As well there should be an informational packet that came with the pill. Take some time and read it.

Yes, the morning after pill works because it's expelling the lining of your urterus (your blood) so that IF the egg became impregnanted by the sperm, it will have nothing to attach itself to. And because it is a large dose of hormones, the cramping is normal as well. Even nausea and headaches in some women.

Yes - that's the idea. If you're using this method to protect yourself from pregnancy because of unprotected sex (stupid move there - unless it was non-consensual!), then this is exactly what to expect. The high levels of hormones contained in the drugs make the uterus contract and expel the lining, so that the fetus - if there IS one - won't have any place to implant, hence no pregnancy.

Possible side effects should have been explained to you, and also be in the paperwork that comes with a prescription...my guess would be yes, but if you cannot read the package insert, call your doctor to be sure...
