My 5 yr old hates meat, allergic to nuts- how do I find him protein?
-
It's been going on since he was a baby, he's always hated meat. Then we found out he was allergic to nuts, AND legumes (peas, beans etc). I want to get some protein into this boy but I don't want his diet to consist of bologna and MacDonalds cheeseburgers (the only meat he'll eat. Hot dogs he hates too). Does anyone know of a protein source, natural food (no adult protein bars), that could supply the missing nutrients found in meat? (Without nuts)

Answer:
Cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, edamame, tofu. See if he'd enjoy shrimp or tuna. My lil guy loves summer sausage. Also eggs, scrambled or egg salad.

Have you tried chicken? Or fish? Very high in protein and very yummy. Also I think spinach is good for protein.

If he seems to dislike most protein sources, have you ever had him tested for a minor urea cycle disorder? In cases like that, overly high protein levels might cause someone to feel very ill, and they tend to avoid meat and other high-protein foods for the most part.

GNC has protein powders you can add to his milk or you can make him afternoon fruit shakes with it. eggs are pretty high in protein but are also high in cholesterol so watch out for that. raw brocolli has more digestable proteins than some meats if he eats vegetables. good luck.

Make what you want him to eat (hopefully it's healthy--DO NOT go to McDonald's every time he demands it!) and tell him that you made it for him. If he doesn't want to eat it, that's fine, but you won't make him anything else.

go to a kosher food store or a health food store. they have tons of vegen stuff and its all natural. kosher if for Jewish people cuz they have strict rules about their diets but it mite be good for your son. tons of rules here! i.e: no dairy products are to be eaten with meat like cheese and meat

I think that eggs have protein. You could make him a super yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs with cut-up peppers and cheese in them. If he wont eat that, you can tell him its what grown-ups eat, and he would be the most mature, best kid you know. Something like that, maybe. Or vitamins are good. They have children's character shaped ones, that could be fun for him. Good luck!

Eggs, cheese, yogurt, tofu. Kashi GoLean Crunch is a whole grain cereal with 9 grams of soy protein per serving - my 5 year old (who doesn't like meat either) likes it with milk and frozen blueberries.

if your objection to protein bars is that they are made for adults, there is a company that has a kids line. they are called clif z bars. my son absolutely loves them.
