How fast is Yamaha yz426?

Whats the proper way to adjust the idle on a YZ426?

  • I just bought a 2000 Yamaha YZ426. It wont idle. I trying to figure to proper set point for the idle screw.

  • Answer:

proper set point is based on mixture screw as well you adjust the mixture screw to get a smooth idle and then adjust the idle screw for proper speed of about 900 rpm's or so you might also have to remove the carb and clean it if You are having idle problems as well as the mixture screw might have a plug over it that needs to be removed

Since you already have started screwing with it (pun intended) you'll need to sort back up a little but just a little. First, make sure the throttle and throttle cable are clean, well lubed and adjusted to the proper slack at the bars. Second, make sure the choke and hot-start are sliding in/out properly, a dab of WD-40 works wonders. Third, turn the idle screw 2.5 turns out from snug, start the bike and let it warm up to normal ops, should be fine there but adjust in/out as needed.
