What paint do you use on clay?

What kind of paint do I use for polymer clay?

  • I made chess pieces out of polymer clay and I would like to know what kind of paint I should use for them. One half will be silver and the other half will be gold. I want them to be shiny and glossy. Could I use spray paint to paint a lot of them all at once? And then individually gloss them? Or is there a special type of paint I should use for polymer clay that will make it glossy already?

  • Answer:

Well I usually make my sculptures out of colored polymer clay but I do add details with paint..I use acrylic paint and I think that would work pretty well with what you're going for, at Michaels they sell them in individual bottles, they make metallics too so that would be good for you. You can also find it online here: http://www.michaels.com/CraftSmart%E2%84%A2-Acrylic-Paint--2oz./cp0396,default,pd.html They also have brands that are already glossy, but I find that the best way to get them glossy is to coat them with Sculpey brand satin glaze, which is a clear coating meant especially for polymer clay that you paint on and dries glossy and transparent. They also sell it at Michaels and at http://www.amazon.com/Sculpey-Glaze-1-Oz-Satin/dp/B004CFD8FS. Hope this helps!
