How do you resize pictures?

How do I resize a pictures byte size rather than pixel size?

  • I have a few pictures that are like 17 kilobytes in size and I want to reduce them to 1768 bytes but every software I come across only allows for pixel reseizing and not actual file size reduction.

  • Answer:

You will need to customise the JPEG compression, this is usually something only possible on higher end photoediting packages like corel and photoshop. You should also be able to do it with GIMP which is a free open source graphics package. http://www.gimp.org/windows/ However it should be pointed out that reducing the filesize this much will result in a very poor quality image

Digital photo files contain what is called text information called IPTC, which can take often take many kbytes worth of space. Photoshop will delete this information with it's Save For Web command, but there are other software packages, many shareware, that will delete this information as well, making your image file much smaller. I cannot help with the 3rd party software as I never need it, but a quick Internet search will yield enough results to find what you are looking for.

One easy way I have found to make my pictures smaller is to email them to myself. My email always asked me whether I want to retain the size or make them smaller. It would degrade the quality of your picture if you were going to print them out. Good luck and keep taking lots of pictures.

You can try this one. http://www.pictureresize.org ... I use this software and it works very fine for me.
