Either have someone else take the picture or use a tripod. Better yet, use a picture from somewhere you've been or something you've done with other people so you don't look like such a typical Myspace camera whore.

If you have any real friends (ones you can touch) why not ask one of them to take your picture? You are very limited to what you can do in self portraits and most of the Myspace ones look like crap. This question is asked everyday

Use a tripod, take a picture first to test out the lighting. Then put your camera on self timer and go and pose in front of the camera.

You could use a tripod and pose differently. Or take a picture of you doing something you love, such as playing the guitar (if you like playing the guitar). Also try from different angles. Below you, above your head, from the side, etc. You can also ps it, put on different effects, or change the background.
