Help me! Family tree; Germany- Fillisch.?
-
Hello! I'm creating a family tree in Society & History. I've come to a barrier on my father's side... A language & distance one! I'm after any people, locations, spouses, years, or in general information on anyone with the surname Fillisch. The surname Fillisch originated from possibly Hungary, Austria or Germany. Some of my older relatives used to live in Bavaria/Bayern, but my younger live in Munich/Munchen in Germany. Can you help me? Any information would be appreciated. Due to my misunderstanding of the language German, there are many resources I can't understand at all! Names for help (I have these people but I'm unsure of some of there whereabouts on the tree- e.g. their brothers or sisters, or parents, or even which generation they belong in!): Beppo Helmut Rudolph Inga Anita

Answer:
to find the facts, they must be attached to some sort of document(s). In most cases, we might use the US census to do that, which is open only up to 1930. I personally don't have access to ancestry.com. Between 1930 to the present, there will be other documents that are needed. First is to identify the parents of your father. I can't be sure what record to use, since it is unclear if he is living/ dead. The critical thing- THAT RECORD (or other records) define where you go next. I see none of the names you mention... however, I did a quick look at www.familysearch.org, under their search option.. then USING RECORD PILOT. There are a few entries for the name (not the first names you have). Some are in fact in Germany (remember.. German boundaries are very flexible and may be different from what you know today). I also see some in the Netherlands. I see two persons, man and a woman, and their date of immigration (not the same date.. not necessarily husband/ wife?) to NY around 1900-1920. YOU need to define the name of the person (grandfather/ gr grandfather) who is the exact immigrant, then find a document about him, such as naturalization or immigration. One or both will normally provide an exact town of origin, which you need to know. If you can obtain those names (leave the others out for now), then come back.. REPOST .. and see if someone can pull up those documents. It is often one step at a time process. edit I see NO ONE of this name in the social security death index which has US deaths from about 1960. Is the name a maternal side, that has no male line coming down?
