How to make a bird cage?

Any ideas on how to make a bird bath that attaches to cage, as commercial ones break so easily and leak too?

• There must be something to adapt better than a bought one. My bird poops in the water if it is in the cage, so I want to put a bath over the door, but the one I bought leaks at the join and was so hard to assemble it cracked already. I'd like to make him one from something, and ideas?

  Many years ago I began doing things in my cages that look nothing like the pictures on the packages of bird supplies & it has simplified my life & saved money. Also, I stopped caring as much about if bird poop was in the bath water. Right now I'm using plastic jar lids just placed on the bottom of the cage for the birds (finches) to bathe in---about 6 - 10 cm in diameter. At the pet supply I also check out the reptile section for dishes that hold water---they're shallow, heavy but don't attach to the bars. They're often cute---I use one that looks like a rock. I do use several of the tube style water holders that attach to the outside of the bars & only the little "cup" is available to the birds for drinking. Oh---have you seen these corner perches, they attach to the inside of the cage & could hold a shallow water dish? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=19232 My finch cages are large enough that I can position the bathing dishes where they aren't directly under a perch which helps minimize the droppings but there's no getting completely around poopy finch dishes that I've found. Again---I adjusted my attitude regarding that situation & it has made me enjoy the birds more LOL.
