What's a good cockatiel cage?

My cockatiel help! advice and his droppings!?

  • i have a 6 month old cockatiel, and i got her a good 3 weeks ago, she was making noise and stuff the first 2 weeks then i started to take her out only for 5 minutes every 2 days or 1 day, for 5-10 minutes, she loves it when i give her millet spray , but she also eats her seeds her regular bird food, i havent fed her fruits or lettece yet but i will start to , but once i took her out the first day she as kind of calm flew away 1 time and every time i take her out she always bumps her head onto a wall but not to hard but everytime i bring her in she seems to go to sleep and has an addiction! with the top left side of the cage she stays there for an hour and a half everyday but thats where she mostly stays idk why! she makes noise the first weeks then when i take her out she barely does it, only i take her out, change her food, hold her, everything for her but she started not to really make alot of noise lately ( except for today she has really been making noise today especially right now) also her dropping today seemed very weird to me it looked very black no green no white just black like a very dark black green and it looked very round not like splat like most birds it was very solid looking, his eats regularly and fine, he drinks, plays in her cage, makes noise she seems fine whats wrong with his dropping? will he start molting? what is that? is there anyway to help him with that if he needs it? any other advice for me or him? why does he stay on the top right of his cage almost everyday for a long time? should i take him out more?

  • Answer:

He is sad because he is not deep-fried. If you deep fry him and eat him, he will never be sad again! Birds that are deep-fried taste great with hot sauce or ketchup. You'd love it!

I would not be overly concerned. birds like to get as high as possible, and into a corner.this is an instinct that helps protect them from predators, and makes them feel safe.If her droppings continue to be abnormal, it is always safest to turn to a avian veterinarian. birds tend to sing more when left alone, or under stimulated. I would recommend leaving a radio or other noise making device in the room to keep them company. Also if you are concerned about your cockatiel flying into walls i would clip it's wings, if they are not already. you sound like a very well meaning and concerned bird owner. i hope that this helps!

Have you changed the diet at all? Sometimes even if they just eat a little more of one color of pellet, it will make everything different. Any fruit changes, or veggie changes? My birds color of droppings change all the time just because of what I feed them. I'd watch and as long as she's not puffed up a lot, or staying on the bottom of the cage a lot, I wouldn't worry about it. Watch the nose and make sure she doesn't seem congested. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Hey, I don't think you have much to worry about - as birds age, the start to change a lot emotionally and physically. My cockatiel, Peekaboo, made so much more noise when he was very young than now. I think he's about 6 years old, and he still sings and sqwaks, but much less often than he did when he was just a baby. Normally, cockatiel's dropping are fairly solid. There is variation often, but for cockatiels, their droppings are mainly solid and dark. Birds begin molting in the Spring, naturally. For my cockatiels, it hasn't been very noticeable, unless they start pulling their feathers out, which is also normal during molting season. And molting is basically shedding for birds. Their feathers start to fall out to make a thinner coat for the warm weather. Your bird probably likes to observe and relax a lot. All birds have different personalities, and even though it may not seem normal, His behavior will probably vary as he ages. I'm glad you're finding ten minutes a day to let your cockatiel out, and that's hard to do with a busy schedule. I'd suggest that you try to find some more time, though. You don't have to be watching him the whole time, I do a lot of my work with my bird hanging around by me. I sometimes even let them into the bathroom when I shower, weird as it may be! But birds love and need to be free every day, even though It's hard for me and many other people to find time. If you don't have any other pets that are threatening, you could even leave your bird out for most of the day.
