How do crickets die this is weird?

Why do my Crickets go all mushy and die and they stink!?

  • i get a tub of adult crickets, brown, for my reptiles and spiders and i have tried keeping them in the tubs and the next day they go all mushy and 50% or more are dead, i bought a 'cricket keeper' and a simular thing happens. it has tubes and the crickets after a few days are all dead in there. i have tried everything, i clean the cricket keeper with disinfectant and rins it off with lots of water but they still all die. and they stink!! anyone else have this happen?? anyone know why or how to stop this from happening? yes i'm feeding them with gut loader (this multicoloured granule stuff) and a powder food that they use at the pet shops, i also give them water with cotton wool so they dont drown in it. water is changed every 2 days, but topped up every day.

  • Answer:

i bought a mini fridge for mine because it slows them down so they dont die as fast and go all mushy wrap them in a plastic bag and leave them in the freezer and take them out an hour before u feed them to ur pet :)

Other answers

I keep my crickets in the tubs they come in and just feed them a handful of oats and either some carrot or potato which they get their moisture from. I manage to keep mine alive for 1-2 weeks.
