Why do my crickets die so much?

  • Yesterday i went to petsmart for crickets but they only had 8 left so i got them and i went to a small petstore and got 30 there well last night i put them in there 20 gallon tank with lots of egg crates and a bowl of bearded dragon pellets mixed with fish food. and a damp paper towel. Well i woke up this morning and looked in there and i can already so 2 that are dead laying upside down? Why does this always happen Crickets are NOT cheap!! Also could i feed my beardie dead ones?

If your buying Lg crickets, then they are already adults I keep 1000 crickets in a 30 gal. tank with potato slices and apple slices Do not feed the crickets any thing that has been sprayed with pesticides or coated with anything such as preservatives, I use organic its way safer..And gut load cricket food. I use only cardboard egg cartons.Crickets that die are not healthy remove them right away. the other crickets will dine on the dead ones and die to .And they do need proper air and light. .Also do u really want to feed you dragon bad food.keep the tank Free of all cricket droppings I have 2 water dragons that eat 24 Lg crickets every 2 days. 1000 last me over 2 mo.adult crickets have shorter life spans.

I'm not sure what the climate is like where you live. Where I am the temperature is COLD! When I buy my crickets, I bring my own bug box and a scarf to wrap it in on the way out of the pet shop to my already warm car. :) Also, sometimes pet shops do not take very good care of their crickets and they are already malnourished and dying. :( I go to a trusted local pet shop for my crickets.

Crickets have a total life span of 8 weeks. If you're buying large crickets, they're already near the end of their life. But, also try offering them food and a water source to help keep them from dieing too early.

You can feed your beardies dead ones, but definatly dust them in calcium and they might not eat them if they dont move, but mine eat anything.
