How to kill mites for good?

Has anyone ever used ivermectin to kill ear mites in a dog's ear?

  • Our small dogs have been diagnosed by a vet with ear mites. He gave us Mita Clear to use on the dogs but I really hate pesticides so I've been using something I saw as a natural rememdy - heated baby oil. Anyway, I've read that ivermectin will kill ear mites but is not approved by the FDA in the treatment of ear mites in dogs. Have any of you used it for ear mites in dogs? What is the treatment protocol? Thanks so much.....

    i'm pretty sure you can use ivermectin for ear mites. if your vet thought it would work better i'm sure s/he would have prescribed it. i don't know if you'll just be able to pick some up somewhere. it's a prescription drug. ask your vet about tresaderm.

I have and it worked okay. It was kind of rough to hold the dog down.

Are you sure it's ear mites or are they fleas? For ear mites use room temperature mineral oil in your dogs ears put a little in just enough to fill the ear canal and massage your dogs ear from the base up. The oil suffocates the ear mites you may have to do this every 2 day for a week. For you house vacuum everywhere thoroughly all the cracks crevices and floors every nook and cranny also wash all your bedding in hot soapy water and wash all your clothes too. any stuffed animals bag them for 2 weeks or put them in the dryer for 20 minutes. Vacuum your bed and between the mattresses and box spring or use a steamer. Be sure to empty out your vacuum when your done and wash the vacuum cup out with soapy water.
