How do we control our bladder during sleep?

I put my dog to sleep on wednesday night and I am miserable. Did I do the right thing?

  • He has been sick for the past month. He has problems going to the bathroom; he would leak all over the house (no control). He also had to stay in a cage a lot because of this. His prostate was big and he would strain to go; when he was outside it would take him 15 minutes to releive his bladder (it was only drips that would come out) He didn't play with his toys anymore; all he did was lay around. I could tell he didn't feel good. Last week the vet told me that he had proatate cancer. I'm so sorry that I put him to sleep. I haven't been able to sleep at night--- we used to sleep together every night.

yes, you did the right thing. the whole purpose of putting a dog to sleep is because the dog's quality of living is not suitable for him/her. when we put our dog to sleep i was miserable too but it made me feel better to know that he was not suffering anymore.

Yes, you did the right thing. I had to put my Doberman-Pincher to sleep last month. I've had that dog for 13 years. Her back legs quit working and I had to put her down. If the dog is suffering it's the best thing that you can do for it. If you love you pet you wouldn't want them to suffer. You never wanna see someone or something that you love suffer it just isn't right. You did absolutely the right thing.

Raven, I really do know how you feel. I had my little Sarah Jan put to sleep on October 8, 2000, and I still miss her SO much. But you said you could tell your dog didn't feel good, and that he didn't play any more. By the time you decide that putting your dog to sleep is what you have to do, it is definitely the right thing to do. Your dog was very lucky to have someone who loved him enough to make that very difficult decision. You know that he wasn't going to get better, and he had probably known that for a while, too. I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better, but I don't think anyone who loves her dog has EVER had him put to sleep when it wasn't necessary.

would you like to live like that ???? Of course you did the right thing , he was suffering . I had to put my baby to sleep back in Oct and it is never easy. I promised my self she would never suffer , I'm sorry for your lost. You are in my prayers.

Being a dog owner means putting the dog's well-being before your own. You did the humane thing by ending his suffering. It would have been cruel to keep him alive for your own needs. It's painful to lose a pet, but in time you'll be able to look back and remember the good things.

Yes you did. You could have prolonged his life, but would either of you enjoyed the extra time together? You did exactly what a loving pet owner would and should do under the circumstances.

I put our 3 year old pit down not too long ago and I felt horrible after words, but you know what it really is the best thing to put them down so they don't suffer,we cant be selfish and keep our animals around just because we'd miss them...cheer up...your boy is in a better place

My heart goes out to you but one of the things a responsible and caring pet owner needs to do is to let go when the pet can no longer enjoy life and to be in a cage is no place for a dog but understand why-right now your dog is running in fields through the skies with the wind at his back and being warmed by the sun chasing butterflies thanks to you. It's hard to lose a pet and we miss them but how happy your dog is now and believe that animals go to heaven too don't you think God would want hem with HIM and years when you've lived your life there will be your dog wagging his tail happy to see you.

you did the right thing.don't regret this for a moment. keep your memory's about your pet. its normal to grieve it takes time to heal. give yourself time before you purchase another PET.
