What is the difference between an Amplifier and a Speaker?

Left speaker output broken on my Amplifier.?

  • Hi, i have a pioneer 5.1 chanel home theatre system which i run my music from my computer to. Now a few weeks ago I plugged an extra speaker into the left speaker jack on the back, It worked ok for a few weeks, but just now i cannot get any sound coming from the Left speaker, i have plugged that speaker into another amplifier and it works fine, so i know it must be a problem with the amplifier. Any Suggestions? Thanks Harry.

  • Answer:

Unfortunately you blew that channel on your amp. Sometimes you can get away with doubling up on a channel but you definitely need to know the specs on the speakers ohms etc. and/or have someway to control impedance matching. If you don't need the surround sound you could put the unit in 5 channel stereo and use the left rear but don't hook up more than one speaker...
