Subwoofer making a low buzzing noise?
-
Just put together my room system.. It's 2.1 basic.. just 1 front left and 1 front right and a subwoofer hooked up to a home theater receiver. Everything is working great. One problem I just noticed is that when the subwoofer is emitting is constant low drone/buzzing noise. I couldn't tell where it was coming from at first. I thought it was the receiver or the speakers but it's 100% the subwoofer. The sub has a volume knob and the hum/drone/buzz will increase or decrease depending on the volume knob (high means louder buzz). It's definitely sounds a ground issue from what I've read. I've unplugged the sub from the receiver and removed the RCA cable and the noise is gone It's only when it's plugged into the receiver and the receiver is turned on that the sub starts making this noise. If I press "mute" or "headphone only mode" on my receiver the noise goes away. How can I fix this issue?? Specifically the sub is connected via 1 RCA cable. Receiver SUB OUT connection to the Sub InputLEFT. (it does not have a LFE, it has left and right. The manual says either connection to the left, right, or both will be fine). It is a Polk PSW10 subwoofer and a Denon receiver. I have read that I might need to get special subwoofer cables that take care of some "shield" and grounding issue. Does that sound correct? Or is it that I need a Y-splitter to connect to both the sub's LEFTIN and RIGHT IN ports? Last detail: When everything is powered on (sub and receiver) and the RCA connection is removed. And I go and plug the connection to one of the units (Receiver) and when I make contact on the 2nd unit (the subwoofer), the subwoofer will make a booming noise like it just got hit with a big bass signal. It'll make one deep, BOOM right when the connection is made. I initially thought that that cant be good and it might be a hazard and blow out my sub when I make connections like that but it seemed to work fine audio-wise so I didn't address it Maybe this issue is related. Any help from home theater, electrical or audio people much appreciated. And please don't write something like, "just get a new sub your sucks" to boost your points cause that's not helpful at all. Thanks.

Answer:
I would try changing the cords you have hooked to the sub. And turn on the FM radio and see if it stops
