What gauge for speaker wire??

What is the best wire speaker gauge for 50 feet insttallation ? read more ....?

  • The setup : 5.1 surround speakers system. 2 front speakers around 20 feet, surround speakers around 50 feet in length. Power 150 watts for each channel. What is the best and economical speaker wire gauge i should use ? is 16 gauge good enough ? thanks for your help.

16g is dandy. If you went to a bigger gauge it would be electric wire.

First, you should use the same gauge for all speakers, regardless of the run length. Second, if you really care about good sound, and your ssystem is fairly high-end, using 16 gauge wire will be the weak link in your system. I would use 12 or 14. Radio Shack has some excellent, inexpensive speaker wire. Try that. I use it, and think it is a great value. Good Luck.

16 is fine\ i really doubt you have 150 watts to each channel it's usally 150 to the woofer the rest get divided up to the rest of the speakers
