How do I connect my Comcast DVR box to my tv?

Help with Comcast DVR setup?

  • I just got the Comcast DVR box and stupidly decided to save money by installing it myself. My old box had 2 cable plugs, one for the TV to connect and one for the cable. This one only has one and it just says "cable". I tried both but nothing is working. I have the cable plugged in but I don't know where I connect my TV. Can anyone help?

  • Answer:

You don't say what kind of connection options your TV has, which would really help. Your DVR has various outputs- composite, component, and probably HDMI. If your TV has any of those inputs, just connect the proper cable(s) from DVR out to TV in. If your TV only has coaxial in, connect from the DVR composite out to a RF Modulator, then coaxial cable out from there to the TVs input. (You'll have to buy the modulator at Walmart, Radio Shack, etc.)

If it's a newer dvr, look in back and see if there is a big port that looks like a big usb port. It should be labled HDMI. If it is, you have to plug one in the dvr and it goes to the tv input. Make sure your tv has the same type port. Don't spend too much on the cable, the cheap one works just as good as the $100 one. If you don't have that type, the only thing left is either a/v or component ports
