Can you copy from a DVR to a VCR?

Comcast DVR copy to VCR?

  • I was told awhile back the functionality of copying DVR programs to an outside media was impossible and that the option is given because the technology would be introduced. Does anyone know if it is indeed possible to now copy recorded programs to electronic media to be viewed on a computer or another TV? However, I cannot copy to a VCR since I no longer have one and want to be able to watch programs on my computer when I travel or on another TV that is not equipped with a DVR.

  • Answer:

I use my computer as a vcr to record my dvr programing. I hook up my cable box to a little piece of hardware I have in my computer called an ATI TV Wonder Pro. While i'm watching the program on my computer i'm recording it directly into the hard drive.

Any video source (dvr included) should be able to be recorded by any modern digital video recorder or PC capture device, copy protection permitting. However, few DVRs would permit you do digitally pull content from them, the least of which would be DVRs from the providers, since they like to lock down their content.
