Come here, register for free, then ask your question. Ubuntu is a flavor of Linux. You do not need a decoder in Linux, because it is built into the operating system. Unless you are using a Linux DVD in Windows, sometimes you would need to download a decoder. If you are using the Linux DVD in Linux, you don't need a decoder, just the most recent version of a DVD/CD player such as Xine, etc... In Linux, most of the time you need to know a little about programming to install programs. But if you have a LiveCD, it should automatically play no matter what operating system you have [Linux or appropriately GNU/Linux, Apple Macintosh, Windows.] apt-get is only for Debian [a flavor of Linux: The creators, a husband and wife team named the OS after their own names: Debbie & Ian = Debian]. kUbuntu is a different flavor or version, which might or might not be able to use apt-get. I would assume the asker is asking about how to do things in Windows. FYI, your question is in the wrong forum.

I'm presuming you've not tried apt get? You can apt get the DVD software...
