How do I connect utorrent to the internet?
-
OK so Ive been using Utorrent with no problems for about 3 years now. I just bought a new laptop yesterday and installed Utorrent. When I tried to use it, the torrent wouldnt download (it estimated time was infinity, and 0.0 downloading) I know there are plenty of peers and seeds so thats not the problem. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite.64 bit running windows 7 Home premium. I havent changed anything yet (except my firewall settings to allow utorrent) but I know that Norton is going through its trial phase or something. So I thought that maybe that had something to do with it. Well anyways any help would be appriciated. Also if you need more info please ask, thanks. P.S. Im also using the same interent ISP and router as with my old laptop that utorrent worked on.

Answer:
If you have multiple computers there may be problems with the router diverting the tortrent traffic to the correct device. You will need to log into the router and assign static IPs for each of the devices (first of all), then you will need to open up your torrent software and select unique ports to each torrenting computer and then you will need to configure the router firewall to divert certain ports to certain devices. Hopefully this should fix it. Failing that just buy a seedbox to torrent with on http://www.seedboxreviews.com

if you are using Norton Internet Security, it has a firewall built-in, that you may need to disable (or set up an exception). also, you will want to add the exception to Windows Firewall (even if you don't use it) for the port which you have set uTorrent to use (check the settings). also, if you are using a router, you may need to set up port forwarding with the port number from uTorrent (set to send to your computers HOST name). you can find more info at portforward.com lastly, this may sound stupid and obvious, but right-click on the torrent in your uTorrent downloads list, and click Start. and i'm sorry, but i just have to ask: are you getting internet? i always check THAT first. Windows 7 has more security settings than earlier versions, so you just need to jump thru ther proper hoops. let me know if none of this fixes it, and i'll see what else i can come up with to try...
