Why does my computer have the wrong time?

Why does my computer lose internet access unless my phone uses my router at the same time?

  • Ok i am having this never ending problem with my internet connection. I will list the equipment that Im using and explain then problem. I really hope someone can help me its driving me crazy! Basically not all the time but quite often I will attempt to connect to the internet with my Toshiba Laptop (2yrs old) and it will connect to the router but not the internet. The wifi logo will have a hazard symbol and say "no internet access". The weird part is that if i have WiFi on my Droid Thunderbolt turned on and turn my screen on then my computer will instantly reconnect? I don't understand why turning my phone on makes the computer receive internet access from my router. Also, resetting my router and modem will usually fix the problem as well. I use this same laptop every day on the internet at work and i never lose connection so i think that it is a problem with my home network. But the thing about my phone being able to connect most of the time really confuses me. I have had Time Warner come out 4 times and Best Buy come out once. Best Buy replaced my router and Time Warner replaced my Modem and checked all of the connections leading up to my house. I swear that it seems to give me more problems at night than the daytime. It is very erratic and started really acting up again about a month ago. Obviously it is working right now because im typing this question. Please help before i shoot my router and modem with a shotgun :-) Thanks Daniel My Equipment: Toshiba Laptop Netgear Router ( Time Warner Modem Droid Thunderbolt

  • Answer:

Try looking in your router config for any idle-out or connect-on-demand settings and disable them. These are features that disconnect the link after a certain period of inactivity after which the router will need to reconnect on the next attempt to access the Internet. If that happens to be your computer it will initially fail (the reconnection takes a few seconds) so your computer may simply decide there is no internet connectivity. If you connect with your phone first the connection is already established by the time your computer starts up, and it sees an internet connection straight away.

First of all make sure that you have logged in your as administrator. Then check with your modem/router provider to if your modem has Mac filtered is active,(its should be off) An active Virus program may stop you to connect internet, you can disable Virus program or Windows Firewall. I understand that you connect to router/modem but it doesnt let you go out from it. Try to perform the steps below one by one: On your any computer,Start--> type in "cmd" under the program list right click and "run as administrator" in black prompt window type in following : "netsh winsock reset” (without the quotes) "C:\> netsh firewall reset" "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" hit Enter after each command Reboot the computer. Also another thing you can check your computer wireless card power management in Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, right-click the adapter, click Properties, click the Power Management tab, and then clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
