How can I keep these websites from popping up on my computer?

Why do websites keep popping up at random times and how do i stop that?

  • Okay so it all started yesterday when i was on myspace and i try upload pictures so it said to Download X-Active thing and i Accidentally hit it and so this thing pop up and ask me if i wanted to download it or not i said not and so i close that website and about an hour later a website pop up about working at home and i close it i though i just click on something but websites keep popping up out of no where! How do i stop it?

    Before you simply add a popup blocker, be sure you didn't add some adware or malware to your system. Use Malwarebytes to check for malware http://malwarebytes.org and Spy Bot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html to check for adware and spy ware . They will run with your antivirus and will catch things that your av doesn't catch! Both of these are free! They do work and do a good job.

You have to install the Active-X from them so that it can interact with you computer letting you upload the pictures and open the framework. That's not where the problem is from. Probably just happened before, getting infected isn't usually instantly. But yeah, run a spyware, malware & virus scan. Usually they come together. These guys are recommending them so. I had this problem before with stuff a lot grosser when my relatives used our computer... watchout!

Sounds like you have spyware, check this site out to download popular free anti-spyware programs http://www.free-spyware.co.uk Make sure you boot into safe mode using f8 before you run any programs to prevent resident spyware running at boot.

You should look into a pop-up blocker. A good free one comes with the Google Toolbar (http://www.google.com/toolbar/ie/index.html). You also should look into some anti-spyware programs. These will keep viruses off your computer. A good free one is Microsoft Security Essentials (http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/).
