How can I properly read data from bar code scanner?

Acan Barcode Scanner.. doesnt work?

  • Hi, I've purchase a Acan Barcode Scanner in Ebay like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/PS2-BARCODE-SCANNER-HANDHELD-PC-CCD-BAR-CODE-READER-US_W0QQitemZ120202409009QQihZ002QQcategoryZ14929QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ) they say that is plug in play, no drivers need but the fact is that i can't read nothing.. The reader is PS2, i know that i have to connect to the Keyboard port, but it is ok if i have a USB Keyboard? I mean, i connect the Barcode Reader to the PS2 Keyboard port but the Keyboard is USB... The scanner beeps, but after i scan the settings, when i scan a "normal product" it shutdowns and neve beep again, the led is off... Regards, Cláudio

    I have a PS/2 barcode scanner from another company. I also use USB keyboard. I had to connect a (broken in my case) PS/2 keyboard to the other end of the barcode's "keyboard wedge" cable because it gone stuck after scanning the first barcode in the process of sending it to PC (bad cable termination probably). Now I left the broken PS/2 keyboard connected in a corner and I continue using my USB keyboard. Windows will not complain and accept input from all three devices at the same time (USB keyboard, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 barcode scanner). I suggest you to do the same if you can find a PS/2 keyboard. Its been a while since I did any work with scanners - before we had USB keyboards so you may want to verify this elsewhere. The scanners we used connected into the PS2 port via a wedge (two into one device) alongside the keyboard. As far as the software was concerned the input from the scanner looked just like it had been keyed in from the keyboard. You might want to try connecting it in this way if possible.
