Why is my printer giving this message?

My HP wireless-printer keeps giving me an error message saying "Unable to Communicate with Printer"...?

  • It's a "Photosmart 5510d e-All-In-One Series" - It's connected via Wi-Fi network, computer and the printer are both connected fine. - My computer says it has a good connection with the printer. - Whenever I try to print anything, I get that error message telling me that the printer is either unavailable or not connected; despite what my computer's been telling me up to this. - I have all the necessary software installed, I've done troubleshooting, etc. but it still won't work. Help? Thanks guys.

  • Answer:

the most common cause of this is that the IP address of the printer in your router isn't the same as the one your computer memorized when it first installed the printer. open the admin panel of your router and find list of connected devices and computers ... write down the IP address of the printer [192.168.x.yyy] and then in the computer open the printer's properties [usually right-click on the printer] and check that the port being used has exactly this IP address. if it doesn't, change the IP address to match [this is likely on the 'advanced' menu].
