If this question is being asked because you are shopping for a monitor, it is no longer relevant. New CRT monitors (at least in the US) are practically non-existent. With the exception of eBay or a few floor models or the last few remaining monitors in the stock room, you can't even find a CRT monitor. About a year ago I tried to buy a new Viewsonic CRT monitor for my wife. I went to 4 different retail stores including CompUSA. They didn't even have any CRT monitors on the floor. They all said they would no longer carry them and they doubted that CRT monitors would still be produced. I called Viewsonic and spoke with a company representative about this. The answer was that while there was no plans to discontinue CRT monitors, they did not plan to put out any new models in the CRT format and they weren't certain where they could obtain the CRTs to go into their monitors. I had to buy my wife a Viewsonic flat screen. I will continue to use my CRT until it dies or no longer fulfills my needs. This applies to TVs also. You can not hardly find a CRT TV anymore. They are all going flat screen, LCD or plasma. If you hurry you can find "last in stock". So while you ask valid questions, they may be merely a moot point. addition: sorry, corrected a spelling error.
