Need desperate computer help! Monitor is total blank screen on start up and making a strange noise?

whenever i try to turn on the computer, the monitor is blank but the monitor power button is on. The monitor power button is on and blinks and the actual monitor makes a high-pitch squealing noise when the monitor power button blinks. Its so strange!!!!! I think i have a bad video card. The monitor cord is plugged in into the video card. But the screen won't even turn on if i plug the monitor cord directly into the motherboard. I need help please!!!!!!!!!!
Answer:

You have a capacitor that has gone out. Unplug it immediately as these capacitors can catch fire when they go bad. Time for a new monitor as it will be cheaper than to fix.

Guess #1 You have a desktop and a monitor in another case, it is not a laptop. Guess #2 You have a CRT monitor (large tube type, not a flat panel LCD). Guess #3 The monitor is old (over 5 years). Guess #4 You have no warranty on the monitor Guess #5 The circuit controlling the flyback transformer has gone out. That makes the noise. There is nothing in the computer operation that would make that noise. It is internal to the monitor only. Guess #6 As Cyber-me says, it is time to junk that monitor and get a new one. There is nothing wrong with the computer or its video card. Guess #7 You have $100 or so to buy a very nice LCD or LED flat panel monitor

i think cyber-me is on to something here... unplug that monitor and see if you can bum one that works to test his guess... but what he says is a better guess than i was going to have
