TFT PC Monitors better than CRT monitors?
-
Had CRT monmitor with good quality screen at work, told the new flat screen monitors were better for you, but my eyes are sore every day now after stairing into these 'safe' monitors for hours, anyone else agree?

Answer:
hi mate newer tft monitors are quite good however it all depends on the refresh rate, and more importantly the response rate on your monitor the slower the response rate the more chance it will strain your eyes, for example a response rate of 12ms(milliseconds)or above isnt recommended, however anything below this is good, try to find a response rate of 5ms or below, there are plenty of cheap displays with this type of response rate crt displays may be old now and rather large but alot of gamers still prefer the crt(cathod ray tube),probally due to its better colours and the less strain on the eyes you can also buy screen filters to help make eye strain less of a problem hope this helps good luck mate !

although the crt ones still give a better picture i prefer the tft ones or lcd they use less power and take up less space as for hurting your eyes I've never had a problem on either perhaps you need reading glasses of some sort as your optician. help this helps
CRT monitors are far superior in picture quality than TFT but TFT are now accepted as the way forward, space saving, modern etc. if you put the 2 types side by side anyone can see the difference

A good quality LCD panel will generally have higher contrast then most CRT's which in a purely in purely theoretical standpoint should result in less eye strain. A current generation LCD though will never match up in terms of image quality to a high quality CRT. Perhaps you haven't set up the new montior ergonomically correctly. Try loading up the monitors on screen display and setting up brightness and contrast levels and see if that helps reduce your eye strain. Perhaps take a 5 minute break every hour, make yourself a coffee or something and let your eyes rest.

I would be concerned with X-Ray radiation from a CRT monitor, if you spend many hours in front of it. Refresh time is important with games or with any fast moving display, but not with steady displays like when typing a letter. As far as CRT being better in other respects, like Resolution and Contrast, I would like to know why so many of your responders agree that they are. I was convinced of the contrary. I will have to ask this as a separate Yahoo Question.

CRT' present a better image for multimedia and design applications (video editing, digital imaging, etc), however the TFT flat screens are far more efficient, in cost, space, and energy use. The issue you are having with the monitor may be due to the lower refresh rates inherent in LCD monitors. Some people are sensitive to the refresh rates of these monitors (especially after switching from a CRT to an LCD). It's similar to how some people are sensitive to fluorescent lighting. Both (LCD monitors and fluorescent lighting) to not actually display a solid image or light, but instead flicker at a very high speed. The lower the refresh rate in Hz, the slower it flickers. After a certain point people start to pickup on this flickering which strains their eyes and causes headaches. It is possible that after a while with the new monitor you will get used to it (I did). If it is that much of a problem though, see about going back to a CRT.

In both cases, it depends what you paid! Given equal quality levels, CRT is technically a sharper, more contrasted image, with less ghosting in games. However, at the better end of the market [Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and others] the response times and contrast ratios make LCD the best choice - space, carbon-footprint, heat and if you "go for it" HDMI connections for future-proofing. So, is your a good quality monitor? If so, use a DVI port and your graphic card's interface [control panel] to adjust contrast and brightness to suit your needs.
