Computer slow opening programs?

how do i stop so many programs from opening.its slowing down my computer .i need to close and or delete these excess programs

Answer:
Go to Start >Run >type "msconfig". From the General Tab choose "Selective Startup", then from the Services and Start-up tabs, disable any auto run software u don't need or want. Everything you install tends to decide to run each time you boot your computer. After installing anything you should check msconfig to ensure your machine wont slow down over time. This will not stop these programs from working, you can still launch them yourself any time you need them, just they won't be all running by default upon startup, slowing up your machine.

yeah, add/remove the programs that you don't use, once you've done that, open msconfig by going to run>type in 'msconfig'>go to the startup tab>uncheck the programs you don't need. After that, restart your computer, defrag your hard drive by going to start>programs>accessories>system tools>Disk defragmantor>defrag c: first then any other drives restart your pc and see if that helped :] ALSO, check what anti virus you have, if you've got one like norton, piss it off, use nod32 or something like that, its such a great antivirus, and so light on recources
this works for me.hit start, hit run, type in msconfig, hit the start-up tab, selective startup, close any programs you dont want running.if you dont know what they are leave them be. i dont reccomend add/remove as suggested because you may still want those programs and might be useful to you

Deleting programs off your computer won't increase speed of your computer. It may help some if these programs are all running in the background, but it's unlikely. First check what you got running, and I'll show you how to disable programs from running when you turn your computer on. Click start, run, type MSCONFIG. Click the startup tab. Go through the list and see which ones are checked. The boxes that are checked means that those are programs that run when your computer starts. You can disable any of these that you want. Some are windows system files, but you can't hurt anything by shutting them off as you can turn them back on if you need to. Go through the list, uncheck the boxes that obvious and you don't want to run and then it will ask you to restart. I typically turn off the things like MSN messnger, quicktime, Realplayer, and some annoying icons that popup all the time. In the end, you might want to get some more memory (RAM) for your PC. RAM is a fancy term that basically means to speed up your computer and have it run better. The more ram you have, the faster your programs will open. I like to have at least 2GIG ram and if you can get up to 4, that's great too. To check how much ram you got, "right click" my computer and click the General tab up top. Somewhere at the bottom near the description, it will have the type of computer, operating system and how much RAM. IF you want more ram, just take your computer to a computer store and have them do it for you so they know what kind of chip you need.

The problem seems to be that programs are opening, not that they take up disk space. So let's concentrate on that first. Of course you can remove stuff you no longer want, but turning it off will help, is quicker, and easier to fix if you make a mistake. You haven't told us which OS you are using (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Linux etc). I will assume XP. Download Codestuff Starter - A free application with no ads. Install it, and launch it form the start menu. http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Starter-Download-2345.html it gets five star reviews form everyone. I have personally used it for some 10 years. It will give you a list of all the programs that are set to start when the computer is switched on. It will show you where those programs are, so you can more easily discover which piece of software contains the program. These should correspond with the programs you can see running in Task Manager after start up. (right-click the task bar on the same line as the clock, select 'Task Manager', it will open so you can cross check between it and Starter. There are other programs (processes) running in Task Manager. These others are normally needed for Windows to function, so they don't show up in Starter. Non of this will damage Windows, so don't worry. If you turn something off and then find you can't print, then just turn it back on again. You can disable the start up of any or all of these programs by unticking the box next to them. But be careful... Before you untick anything, you first need to understand what the software does. It is no use turning off a critical program of your Anti-virus! (sometimes an expert might want to do that, but I don't think you do.) So look at the location of the program in the list. It will often be obvious, like C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader , for example. That means it is a little sub-program of Adobe pdf reader that probably sits in the tray near your clock and does nothing useful that you can't do with the start menu or a shortcut on your desktop. That one you can turn off. Once you have identified a few and turned them off (keep a little notebook so you remember which ones), restart the computer. See if everything works OK. If you are happy, then go identify and turn off some more. Its a good learning exercise. You often find things you didn't know you had, or had forgotten that you had installed them. Or somebody else in your family added them without telling you why. If anyone argues then just turn their favorite little thingy back on. No problem. Once you have finished that part, then you have learned a lot. You might then want to leave it for a while. Or you can go and learn about services - which ones you need and which ones you don't. For that you need to visit a site: http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSguides.htm Tha is the best list of services on the net. Services can be pretty important, and turning them on and off is a little harder. If you get that far, then ask another question. The correct answer will be to do a Start-> Run> type in services.msc into the run box. Something similar to Starter will open up. There you can chnage the services. Some of them a pretty critical. So read up first. One service you can definitely turn off is indexing. That will help quite a lot. It will slow down any searches for files afterwards, but there are much better ways of searching for files. (search locate32). Thats a taster. It should get you started with no problems. Once you finish all of this your computer will be faster, more responsive, and more reliable. Have fun!

Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by altering your msconfig. Here is how: 1. Open your Start menu. 2. Click Run 3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" 4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab 5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using. 6. Click "OK" Hope this helps! http://www.delete-computer-history.com/slow-boot-up.html

Registry problems cause pc slow down. Registry Cleaner can fix your pc errors. Clean windows registry can speed up the computer. Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software's, install new devices, download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system. This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched. Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC. Clean registry make pc faster. http://downloadlk.com/WhyIsMyComputerSlow.htm
