Does Yahoo Messenger slow your computer down?

My computer runs extremely slow when I use Yahoo Messenger - when I check the processes and watch the CPU usage after log in, I can watch it increase up to 30% almost immediately, then it spikes and drops even up to 97, 98%! What's up with that? And...

I have Yahoo Messenger with voice and my computer has been running slow since I install it. I checked my task magager and there is a lot of memory being used in the back ground all at Yahoo. What can I do to fix this problem without uninstalling it.

I had been using the messenger in my mail, but decided I wanted to keep the chats, so I d/l actual messenger...Now my other programs that are internet based, run VERY slow...Why is that, and what can I do about it?

after downloading Yahoo Messenger my computer slowed down quite a bit..any suggestions? I ran a scan and everything looks okay...I think? not my specialty...:) Thanks...JK

Its the desktop version. And its been loading for like 20 minutes but no luck! I don't want to delete stuff to make it run faster, because I'm on my moms computer (don't want her 2 know :) Is there like some secret trick?

It seems like when I run it, the computer slows down, but when I exit, it runs smooth again.
