Recording with a Camcorder onto your PC?

Is there a way to convert a recording from a vhs camcorder onto dvd or onto a pc?

  • I've got an old Panasonic AFx8 Omnimovie VHS camcorder, and since VHS is outdated and obsolete, I'd like to know if there is a way to convert it to DV or at least get recordings onto a pc. The power charger does include white and yellow audio/video connectors, as well as in/out coaxial cables. I know these are meant to hook up into a tv or vcr, but is there anyway I can use it on a pc?

    You need to convert it to digital video, just to get it onto your computer. Pinnacle and plextor plus Roxio all make analogue to digital converters plug your VHS into it and then Via USB into your computer, use the software and off you go. The quality varies, even at best it is not fantastic so don't expect DVD quality video. the best its going to be is like the VHS tape. Good luck if you have loads of them, you are going to be there for a long time as they record in real time 10 mins = 10 mins, Have fun RR

ANALOG *If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder… or VHS-c... You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera or VCR to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 85.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert. Anytime you convert analog to digital, you will lose quality, but loss of quality is better than losing all those old memories. **Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exists. This type of VHS Adapter only exists with VHS-C tape
