How do I restore the recycle bin icon in windows XP?

I have deleted my recycle bin icon form my desktop and I really need to restore it. I have looked on the properties menu on the desktop tab and clicked on Customize Desktop, but there is no Recycle bin option for me tick. There’s a my documents one, a my computer one and my network places one, but no Recycle bin option. So how do I get it back?
