How to view and copy hidden files and folders in Linux?

Unable to view hidden folders on my computer?

  • I cannot view hidden folders on my computer drives even after clicking on 'Show hidden files and folders' in the folder options. Every time I open Folder options the option is set on 'Don't show hidden folders' even though I had set it otherwise a moment ago. My PC is Windows Xp. Could you please tell me a solution to this? Thankyou.

That happened because of virus.. Therefore you must use some antivirus software to clean those viruses.. After you clean those viruses, may be you'll able to see hidden files. But it'll depends on antivirus software you choose.. But you can easily solve this problem from formatting your computer.. If you have service provider, you must call them or if you haven't got any service provider, try watch this video. You'll find out how to do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0cop_am1WM and read this too.... http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm Best of luck...

You need to do what you did from a user ID with administrator rights. If you don't have administrator rights, you can call your IT guys and tell them what you need to do. Usually you can see a hidden folder or open a hidden file if you type in the correct name of the folder rather than trying to click on something.

The virus have to be removed first ... Install and run a full scan with malware bytes .... then to restore default privileges in registry, use this tool .... http://rapidshare.com/files/236645737/Restore_settings.exe will restore folder options, run, task manager, registry editing etc ... But if virus is still active, it will shortly undo the changes... Be sure to remove it first ... read this post to learn how to remove malware manually .... http://pcgyaan.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/35/

When you go to folder options, click the view tab. Checkmark 'Show hidden files and folders'. After doing so, hit apply. Sometimes you need to freshly restart your computer in order to save this configuration. simply go to Start > Shutdown > Restart. That way you don't have to keep going to folder options to change the settings.

For some reason XP doesn't like to display hidden folders even though you have changed the settings. Just keep trying and it should work at some point.

its due to a virus.... some malicious program would have entered into your system.... download the new avg 8 from the internet and install and scan it.... it cures....
