all you need is two UTP cables and a network switch (and network cards on each of the pc if you don't have any yet) just plug the cables into the network ports at the back of cpu casings, at the other ends in the network switch. and now both of the pcs are connected! easy isn't it? next go to start menu->my network places->set up a home or small office network and just follow the instructions (it's pretty easy). then right click on the folders that contain the files that you want to transfer->properties->sharing and check the "share this....." checkbox. (or you can share the whole drive if there's a lot of folders to transfer) from the new pc, start menu->run and type \\<your old pc hostname> or \\<your old pc ip> and it will open windows explorer for the old pc, in the new pc. you can start copying now :) p-s: to check your hostname and ip, start menu->run and type "cmd" . then type "ipconfig/all" in the command prompt. see Host Name and IP Address. alternative way: buy an external harddisk, copy the files into the external HD and plug it into the new pc and copy into it.

cross over cable is all you need - assume both PCs have a network card. set both pcs into the same work group. enable shares on the old PC to the folders that have the stuff. from new PC connect to the shares and copy the stuff over. --- or take the hard drive out of the old PC and plug it into the new pc and copy it. A USB to IDE adapter can be found on ebay for $10-$20 and this is the easiest. Or you can plug it inside the case as a slave drive for free

if you are only transfering documents and files then try removing the hard drive and connect it to the new computer. you can send file that way. or try a using a flash drive or thumb drive. but if you are talking about transfering program files. then that's a whole different story. if that is the case, well try reinstalling the program onto the new computer.
