How do u clean a laptop computer keyboard after spilling dr.pepper on it?

  • my son spilt dr pepper on my keybord and well my keys are realy hard to push in.... i do have a warranty on it will they clean it?

  • Answer:

Unless your Laptop Keyboard is Popup removable...you have no choice but to carry it to the Service Center... For Warranty claims, it depends on the Brand of Laptop you are using... And even if its not claimable clause...cleaning a keyboard doesnt cost much...

in my experience the best way to clean a keyboard when something sticky in it is to use rubbing alchol on a cotton swab it evaporates and does not harm the keyboard, just make sure the CPU is off, and if really necessary the keys can be removed carefully by the front by prying them gently just remember the order

turn computer off and wipe it...use a toothpick and a good stong piece of bounty napkin for the hard to reach places. use soap too.

Turn the laptop off and take a damp washcloth and try to get in between the keys

Depending on just how bad it really is ... A normal simple solution is as follows: Purchase a can or two of "Electrical Contact Cleaner" which comes in an aerosol can. Prop you laptop up on end and then literally drench the keyboard by spraying between the keys. Start at the top and work your way down. You can even push on the keys while doing so to see that it is operating properly. Suggest removing power before doing this procedure. It will flush the unwanted material from behind the keys. The chemical will evaporate without leaving a residue and is made for use with electrical products. Be sure to read the label to insure it is compatible with plastic. However, all the different brands I've used were designed to not cause damage to metal and plastic. After completion, allow the laptop to set for a while to insure all the cleaner has evaporated.

I don't know about the warranty deal. Make sure your laptop is turned off and use clorox wipes.

Let it dry out and get at it tomorrow with some Q Tips. Good luck!

This probably won't be covered by the warranty, but you should definately take the time to inquire ... Please, please, please ... promise yourself (I would never ask you to promise me) ... promise someone/somewhere that you WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT WITH THE POWER ON ! Turn everything off, unplug it from the wall, unplug the keyboard ... a Q-Tip, some mild dish-soap diluted in water (just a tad stronger than you'd use for your dishes), a whole lot of patience ... and let it air dry over night before you plug ANYTHING in. FYI: It will probably be forever sticky (not so much where you cleaned, but underneath the keys). Dust and all sorts of nasty things/creatures will accumulate. Ya' know, a new keyboard only costs about $50 ... you can get them just about anywhere ... they are pretty generic. Take your old one with you to make sure that the one you're buying (if you choose to do so) has the same sized plug and layout and stuff. On your way home, stop by Home Depot and pick up a Paint Paddle ... consider using it on something other than Paint ! LOL (Just Kidding) ... Oh, Junior would so owe me the $49.95 I had to spend on a new keyboard though ! ;-) -- Alan P.S. Feel free to share the Paint Paddle suggestion with him ... it might help in the long run ! LOL-again

If only you had said Coke, I would be able to help you. Ah I kid, if it is a laptop, that is tricky. Turn the laptop off and take a damp washcloth and try to get in between the keys. That has worked on my PC keyboard before. I am not sure whether or not it will work on a laptop though. You may just have to break out the warranty and see what happens. A lot of the time warranties do not cover accidents caused by the user (anything external).

Go Coogs!

just pop the keys off and wipe up the remaining dr. pepper.
