Locked out of Windows XP, how do I get back in?

About Windows XP Home Version?

  • I have Windows XP Home Version. I am trying to go back to the configuration that was working a couple of days ago. I can't remember the name of the window but it is something like reset. The window pops up but it is empty. I cannot reset the PC since there is no drop down box to enter a previous date into. Can anyone help me? Also, the windows firewall program is locked, something abut group setting. How do I get into it so I can turn the firewall off temporarily?

  • Answer:

Ok first thing shut down your computer and the turn it on again, (this is called 'reboot'). Then as it loads up hit the 'F8' button on your keyboard. You have to do this fairly quickly before windows loads up otherwise it won't work. You should see a menu; in that menu click on 'last known configuration'. Hopefully all problems will now be solved.
