Depends on what you are trying to program!

no it really doesn't have anything to do with actually knowing math, it's just programming is really just a series of algorithms, so usually if you are good at math you will find programming a lot easier they go hand in hand but no, you don't actually have to know a certain topic of math to be able to do progrmming

You don't really need to know math. I mean you have to use some formulas depending on what your program is going to do but the computer does most of the actual 2+2/3 kind of math.

What the hell kind of ghetto school were you enrolled in? Didn't teach you math? Are you kidding? Math and programming are both intensely analytical and conceptual. If you are a failure at math, you will more than likely be a failure at any marketable and bill-paying form of computer programming. Don't go into it, anyway. It's all going to be outsourced to India in 5-10 years.

no not necessarily but as stated before if your good at it it will help. and just remember that in math its like everything else, just learn the rules and procedures and youll be golden now the reason they say this for c and not say php which you said your accustomed to. is because of memory handling mostly. if you know php or javascript then you already know much of c as it is, just with any language you have to learn its tricks and nuances. so for the memory thing you will have to learn base 8 and base 2 maths so to convert hexi to decimal and binary to decimal etc, and how to add those values, etc .and this you can ignore too if your apps arent to complicated and your not worried about performance. other than that really you will see how php and javascript are modelled after c and unless your trying to write physics or math programs thats use alot of math youll be ok, so go for it and never be afraid to try something and believe in yourself and you might learn just how easy it is to learn anything, even math, by learning the rules and procedures of how do do it, just like the program your making, you tell it the rules and then it knows what to do! oh and to respond to the poster above, no you dont need a degree, yes it helps but if you publish freely online you can show your work, and most businesses especially know that most of the gurus are self taught or have done it without a traditional education or without finishing their orthodox education

I've been programming websites for about 13 years now and although I don't need much math for what I do, it does come up from time to time. If you want to be a good programmer, yeah, you're gonna need some math every now and then.
