Do long distance calls charge the caller or the receiver?

Who pays for long distance calls?

  • Who pays for long distance calls, the caller or the receiver? I heard it's free for the receiver, but is this limited to certain providers?

  • Answer:

In the US, and in most countries, wire-line telephone callers not call recipients pay for LD. If the caller uses a cell phone, most cell phone providers don't charge for LD beyond the airtime charges. And if the call receiver is on a cell phone, airtime charges (but not LD) will still apply. In the UK and some other countries, many cell phones are 'caller paid' so a charge will be levied against the caller. And of course, if the caller places the call collect and the recipient accepts the charges, then the recipient will be billed for the call (most of the time) Good luck!
