  A LED TV is actually a LCD screen, but with a LED backlight (the light behind the screen) instead of a normal cold cathode lamp. It is the same technology to display the picture. LED is better for: - Lower power consumption - Thinner - Deeper black (the backlight can be turned off for a small portion of the screen in a LED backlight) Because it is the same technology except the backlight, there is no negative downside to LED compared to LCD (except for the higher price). LED is really just an improved LCD. So, for gaming purposes only, there isn't much difference except better blacks for LED. However, manufacturers tends to put the LED technology only on their high-end TVs, which can bring other advantages like more advanced apps or a better refresh rate.
