Can i get HD channel with s video input?
-
I just got a hitachi 55HDT79. Its all of that 1080i, 720P, 480i ready etc. Currently its only connected to dishetwork reciever 508 via S video and my local cable with RF input. Recently a local channel started airing their news in HDTV format and they claim all i have to have is a HDTV ready tv and i will get their HD news in high color details etc. But not only their channel but all the channels show 480i when i press the info button, so i was wondering whether i can get their 720P or 1080i picture broadcast with just S video or RF cable when the channel is transmitting in HD or do i need to get a OTA HD antenna or get a cable box or dish receiver with component or hdmi output to recieve that channel in HD. Is there a setting in Tv which allow to set the tv to 1080i or 720P format or it automatically changes to show that difference with each channel. thanks

answered on another portion of this same forum: You have an HD TV. But, you also need an HD receiver from Dish like the VIP 622 AND you need to subscribe to HD programming. Then, you will need an HDMI cable or component and audio cable to go between your receiver and your TV. good luck. When you finally see HDTV, it will knock you off your feet.

Hi dear in order to get HD signal from dish network you have to get a hd satellite receiver and connect it thru HDMI or Componet (Y PB PR ) then go in the menu of the satellite box and select AUTO fro display format so when they broadcast in HD depending upon their transmission u would get 420p, 480i, 720p or 1080i u could also do this if u have cable service connect RF cable wire directly to tv (vhf/uhf or rf input) and then selct MENU on remote go to CHANNEL MANAGER then auto channel then select start it would go thru bunch of channels including analog and digital once done u should have hd channels frm cable just they are in higher number like 100-1 or 113-1 and so on Good Luck

unless you have the reciever for HD you won't get HD.Now if it is a local staion and you have a antenna on the roof for plain old tv,you can hook that up and it is in HD.I recently bought an RCA hdmi dvdr which takes all signals and turns them into what they call "near HD".you run everything thu the dvdr and it makes a great improvement. It also records everything in HD.walmart has em for 98 bucks.
