How can I improve my Freeview signal?

Can a different freeview box improve the tv signals?

  • I live in a flat and use an indoor tv aerial and a Nokia freeview box. The problem is I cannot receive all the channels. If my aerial is adjusted so that I can watch BBC1 and 2, then I can't receive ITV and 4 - and vice versa. I've bought another new aerial, but the problem is the same. So now I'm thinking of buying another freeview box. Do you think it may solve the problem?

  • Answer:

Different freeview boxes do vary in the quality they deliver, we have a TV/freeview incorporated downstairs which works really well. Our old freeview box is upstairs and inspit of being phillips, never recieves BBC 4. You certainly need a proper outdoor, digital recieving aerial though. Would make life much easier for you!

different brand ones work different for sure.. had a daewoo , works in london. out here.. useless philips one was far better signal wise.. BUT i've had 2 break on me.. 1 stopped working, the other the button broke =/ tesco do em for about £30-40 or you need a "wide band ariel" if you wanted to fix it on the house side of it.

NO. Your problem is the strength of the signal going into the Freeview box - that is what needs improving, either by using an external aerial, or a box that can amplify the signal to the Freeview box.

No it wont buy an outdoor digital ariel and mount to outside wall if you cant buy an indoor ariel with a signal booster if this fails try repositioning

Generally the best thing to replace is the aerial. If you cannot get a digital aerial then try and get an amplifier for your existing aerial. Or better yet get an outdoor aerial. By the way you describe it, this does sound like a problem with your aerial, in which case changing the freeview box won't make much of a difference. Did you also check to make sure you are definitely in a freeview area? You can do this at www.freeview.co.uk.

Nope - get a better (bigger) aerial and combine it with a signal booster. Doesn't the block of flats come with a shared aerial? Can't you fit an external one of your own?
