How to improve freeview signal?
-
Hey everyone, I bought a new TV for the bedroom and am having trouble getting a good signal with the freeview box, only getting signal on and off so its jumpy and freezes every now and again. We have a tv in the living room with built in freeview and that works fine. I've used the freeview box for a year so I'm pretty sure it works ok. I've made sure all the wires are in the right place. Any ideas as to why I can't get a signal?? The living room is about 30 ft from the bedroom and has perfect signal.

Answer:
Freeview must have a very good signal or you will always get the problems you describe. Indoor aerials are usually a waste of time and money, even if you use a "booster amplifer". The best solution is to have a dedicated outdoor aerial. If this isn't possible you can share your 'main' aerial (the one that feeds the living room). Get a powered splitter (aerial sharing box) from most good electrical shops (even Wickes the hardware superstore sell them fro about £20) and run an extension aerial cable up to your bedroom. Question: If you have a new telly then it will already have Freeview built in. Why are you using a separate Freeview box? That will not give you any benefit. All new tv sets must have digital recievers built in by law. You will be better off using the television set's built in tuner, it will cut down the number of cables and remote control units that you have. You'll still need a good aerial though.

We had similar,to get over problem installed a reasonably high gain aeriel in the attic and fed the co-ax through the ceiling, that worked it was quite cheap and saved the cost of an engineer climbing on the roof etc.But make sure the aerial is of reasonable performance.
Some TV's and freeview digital box's have built-in signal boosters like mine does. Have a browse through your instruction books. On mine, I can click higher or lower whichever is most desirable.!!!
Try getting an aerial to boost the signal.

if you are in a bad signal area you need as short a lead as possible from the aerial.an out side one is best ,and as high as possible.boosters help, but they boost all the signal , interference as well .low loss leads eg satellite cable helps also
Move the TV to the Living room, and check if it works fine there. If not call the TV manufacturer's support line. If yes, try with an internal antena first, hopefully should work out.
